Here’s what I suggest (and request):

Gather your records: The key question in most severance package reviews is whether the offer you received is fair and consistent with the law. To assess that I will need to see your:
- termination letter
- offer of severance
- employment contract (if you have a written contract)
If there are other documents related to your compensation (such as a bonus policy) or related to the reasons for your dismissal (such as certain employment policies), you should also provide those to me.

Be clear on your compensation package: In addition, you should be clear about all aspects of your compensation package, including base salary, any bonus or stock options plans, benefits, allowances and other perks. That information is necessary to quantify the value of your potential claim.

Ideally, send documents in advance: My preference is to get the documents from you before the meeting in PDF format, though you can simply bring them in hard copy to the meeting. If you send them in advance, I likely won’t read them in detail prior to our consultation. But it can be helpful to have them nevertheless, in case there are any red flags or unusual issues in the documents that would be good to know about before we discuss.
